Stephen James Schelb

September 03, 1953 - January 30, 2025

Stephen James Schelb passed away peacefully surrounded by his children and his loving wife Myra on January 30th, 2025. After a five-year rehabilitation of a hemorrhagic stroke, he relapsed and passed in Klamath Falls, Oregon.

Steve was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. Early in his adulthood his first two children, Carrie and Jason, were born. He moved to Chiloquin, Oregon where he built a reputation for being someone who could be counted on to help you out no matter how big or small the job was, whether you needed a fence mended, a barn built, or anything else.

Steve was a person who enjoyed a variety of jobs and hobbies throughout his life. He spent many years doing general construction and maintenance, including building a many log homes. Additionally, he was the maintenance facilitator for the Oregon Shores 2 neighborhoods for many years and had an active role in the Chiloquin Volunteer fire department for 18 years, including serving as the fire chief for many years. He was always passionate about helping people.

In May of 2000, Steve and Myra began their journey with Countertops by Topsecret in Klamath Falls. Steve learned and perfected the craftmanship of beautiful countertops. He enjoyed updating, remodeling, and beautifying residential homes and commercial business spaces. He was a member of the Klamath Home Builder for 24 years, while he managed to own a business, he also volunteered on many boards including the Special Districts Association of Oregon and the Klamath 9-1-1 Emergency Communications District Board. He was enthusiastic about actively supporting the craftsmanship community and deeply committed to providing 9-1-1 services to the community.

Steve's children-Carrie, Jason, and Sarah-- were his pride and joy. He was proud of the many academic and motherhood achievements by Carrie. Jason took after Steve in many ways, including owning his own construction business and generously supporting his community with his time. Steve supported Sarah in many aspects of her life: being at sporting events, coffee runs, endless phone calls, and even carrying a bent coat hanger in his truck for when she inevitably locked her keys in her car. He wanted to be there for them in any way possible.

Steve knew many people within the community. Even if he didn't know someone, he was known for striking up a conversation with anyone whenever he was out and about. He always had a listening ear.

Steve will be very missed by his loving wife Myra of over 30 years, who was his best friend and business partner and provided exceptional, tireless, and joyful care for him over the last five years. He also leaves behind his children Carrie, Jason, Nicole, and Sarah; his grandchildren Nathan, Justin, Andrew, Dylan, Jaylee, Clare, and Lucas; and his great-grandchildren Harison, Ellie, and Jackson. He will also be missed by his sister Gayle and his niece Kylie. Steve will be missed by his church friends and his many cherished dear friends within the community.

Steve's life will be celebrated on March 1st, 2025, at 11 am, at the Baptist Church of Homedale, 3052 Homedale Rd., Klamath Fall, OR 97603.
