Raymond Clair Bissell
Dec 7, 2024
After a full and long life, we lost our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather on Dec 7, 2024 at age 96
Raymond was the youngest of 4 boys, born on July 8, 1928 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He and his family (including parents Elsie and Harry with brothers Lloyd, Gene, and Spud) moved to Eugene, Oregon in 1941. He completed high school in 1947, and attended University of Oregon for one year, but was drafted during the Korean Conflict, where he was stationed in Anchorage, Alaska. After 2 years of military service in the Army he started working for Pacific Northwest Bell in Eugene in 1953.
Raymond married Shirley Hoselton in 1949, and they had two children, David and Gayle. The family moved to Klamath Falls in 1955, where his children grew into adulthood. Through his phone company connections, he met and married Virginia Anne Lewis (Ginny) in 1984, where her two adult sons, Kevin and Kyle, became part of the family.
All of Ray's post-military working life was with Pacific Northwest Bell, where he was able to enjoy an early retirement in 1983. During his retirement years, he enjoyed fishing, camping, and hunting in Oregon. Also, he and his wife Ginny, were frequent RV campers, traveling from Alaska to Mexico, Georgia, and snowbirding in Arizona and various locations around the western states. During these trips they made sure to include visits to family and grandchildren.
Raymond is remembered for his love and attentiveness forGinny, his wife of 42 years, his love of Mountain Dew, black licorice ice cream, and his weekly visits to the Bimart to make sure we knew if we won the weekly drawing. Ray and his son David greatly enjoyed the quality time they spent together working on house projects and "honey-do's".
Ashes will be scattered to rest with his brothers at their favorite hunting spot in the wilds of Oregon
