Louis Lopez Otero, Jr.

July 10, 1947 — December 9, 2023

Louis Lopez Otero Jr., 76 of Klamath Falls, Oregon passed away from chronic illness due to Agent Orange on December 9, 2023, surrounded by his loved ones.

He was born July 10, 1947, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Louis L. Otero, Sr. and Felicidad Ferrer Otero. He graduated from Wagner High School, Clark Air Force Base in 1966 in the Philippines. He joined the Navy in 1966 at Sangley Point in the PI. He graduated from Naval Training Center and was assigned to the USS Pine Islands as a gunner’s mate. He then attended Corpsman school in San Diego where he met the love of his life, Bonnie. They married December 22, 1967, in San Diego where he worked at Balboa Hospital. He was then transferred to the Philippines in September of 1968 where he was a chief corpsman in the Emergency Room. He was honorably discharged in May of 1970.

He joined the Los Angeles Police Department in 1971. He was injured on duty and retired on disability, October 4, 1984. The family then moved to Klamath Falls where he was a Special Education teacher, coached track & field and football for Klamath County Schools.

His legacy lives on through his wife of 56 years, Bonnie Gabriel Otero and his children, Louisa & Robert Mozingo, Jay and Diana Otero, Louie and Mary Otero, Bon-Heather and John King, Lou and Jennifer Otero, Bonnie Kate Otero and Tommy Mize, Bridie and Tyler Vickery, Brianna and Phillip Peña, Brittney and Clinton Rodgers, Allen Otero and Saige Mathis. He was Poppo to his eighteen grandchildren, Kevin and Bradi, Taylor and Beau, Josh and Lindsey, Mason, Callie, Bella, Lilliah, Logan, Lorenzo, Gabriel, Cassius, Jillian, Kaycee, Leah, Juniper, Dean, Haddie, and Samson as well as his three great-grandchildren: Avery, Wyatt, and Rhett. Also survived by Tess, Marife, Teresa and Val Otero. Honorary family members, Becky and Hope Chase, Sara Kocyla, and Aunt Joy. For those that are not noted, it is recognized that he touched the lives of many. We will miss our Husband, Dad, Poppo, coach, teacher, and mentor.

Viewing will be held Wednesday, December 13, 2023, at Cascade Cremation and Burial. 1229 E. Main Street, KFO, 97603 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

The Celebration of Life will be at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday December 16, 2023, 5500 Running Y Road, KFO 97603, Woodland Ballroom.
