George Raymond Hoppe

January 9, 1945 – April 21, 2024

George Raymond Hoppe was born in Klamath Falls, Oregon on January 9, 1945 and was the son of Laurence and Dorothy Hoppe. After a long battle with cancer, he passed away peacefully on April 21, 2024 with his family by his side.

He spent his childhood growing up in Klamath Falls where he attended Altamont School and later graduated from Klamath Union High School in 1964.

He was very involved with youth baseball and softball here in the basin, where he managed and coached many teams as well as served on the Little League and Babe Ruth Board of Directors for numerous years… this is where he met his wife Cathy and they were later married on June 26, 1982. Together they raised their family here in Klamath Falls where they enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping, as well as following their children and grandchildren around the country for many sporting events.

He retired in 2004 from Neel Distributing after working there for over 32 years. He spent the majority of his retired years as being “Grumpa”. His pride and joy were all of his grandchildren and he enjoyed watching them in all of their sporting events, taking in youth hunting trips and many other adventures.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Laurence and Dorothy Hoppe, father and mother in-law Bill and Pat Cunningham, son Douglas Hoppe, brother-in-law Lyle Schwartz and daughter-in-law Tammy Hoppe.

He leaves behind his wife of almost 42 years, Cathy, sons Craig Hoppe, Chris Howard (Kristina), Tom Howard (Stacy), daughters Beth Walker (Don), Lana Loney (Tom) and sister Cheryl Schwartz. He is also survived by 2 nieces, 10 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
