Daniel H Dickey

December 13, 1952 — April 10, 2021

On April 10, 2021 after twenty six years of failed attempts, Daniel Dickey’s heart finally got him. Dan lacked respect for his doctor’s expert opinions that warned him that he would not survive another attack. He took a grim prognosis as a challenge, proving them wrong over and over again. Dan continued being a medical anomaly long enough to see his children, Julie Dickey, Shireen and Stephen Price, Dayna and Brian Davis, and Erica and Adam Moore give him the the only thing that makes parenting four girls in a house with only one bathroom for 20 years worth it: eleven grandchildren: Siena Price, Quin and Levi Davis, Jazmine Luna, Jeana, Mea, Jenavea, Isaac, Alanda, Nikie, and Isaiah Moore, and two great grandchildren, Jhionni Luna and Luniah Moore. For thirty years Dan was also known as Mr. Dickey. (Or Mr. D for those not mature enough to say his last name.) He taught at Mitchell Junior High School in Atwater, California, Calvary Temple Christian School in Modesto, California, Hosanna Christian School in Klamath Falls, Oregon, and Eagle Ridge High School in Klamath Falls, Oregon. Mr. Dickey inspired thousands of students to push the limits of juvenile delinquency. When he wasn’t teaching his students exciting new ways to blow things up in his science lab, Mr. Dickey was somewhere on campus playing pranks on his students. Dan spent his childhood perfecting this craft. He was born on December 13, 1952 in San Jose, California to his soon to be bewildered parents Josephine and Lester Dickey. Going against their better judgement, after producing a child who at three years old was already devious enough to plan and execute his first prank: pretending to drown in the bathtub, Dan’s parents gave him two younger siblings: Donald Dickey and Dayna Hoff. Much to Don and Dayna’s dismay, becoming a big brother only increased Dan’s mischievous behavior. After a childhood filled with their brother’s pranks, Don and Dayna needed moral support. They married Susan Dickey (Don) and Todd Hoff (Dayna). Back then, it would be hard to imagine a science nerd with an immature and slightly evil side would land a gorgeous wife, but he did. He got on a bus one day, spotted a pretty young woman and sat down in the seat in front of her. He turned to strike up a conversation with her when another woman, presumably the only woman on earth who would be able to handle the mischievous man-child sat next to him and began to chat him up. That gorgeous woman, Sandra Janet Edelen became his wife only 6 months later. Together they built a life centered in their faith. Wherever God called him, Dan followed. He served on the Church board at New Life Christian Center in Turlock, California, and at Keno Christian Church in Keno, Oregon. His most important work however, may have come from God’s call to missionary work in Belize. Dan joined a group of missionaries on several occasions to build a well for a remote village in Belize. He later returned to the village with some of his students to bring a water purification system when the children began suffering from the effects of contaminated water. With his guidance, his students also brought a solar powered battery charger, books and medical supplies to the village. He served God not only in that village, but by also inspiring the next generation of missionaries to continue God’s work. Dan’s entire life was a testament to God’s love, the value of family, community, and through it all, laughter. His mark on this world will be a lasting one, that will live on for generations to come. A celebration of life will be held Saturday, May 29th; 2:00pm, at Keno Christian Church, 15210 Riveredge Road, Keno Oregon In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Klamath Falls Gospel Mission; https://www.kfallsmission.org/giving.php
