Clarence Fagley was born Feb. 13, 1927 in Evergreen, Colorado and passed away April 12, 2023 in Klamath Falls, Oregon.
During World War II, at age 17, Clarence lied about his age and joined the Army. He was in the last Cavalry unit in the Army.
After he served his term, he returned to Evergreen where he worked as a lineman, then met and married Jean Rodack. Their first three children, Doris, Rosemary and David, were born there.
They later moved to Vashon Island, Washington where he operated a wrecking yard. Mike and Pat were added to the family.
In 1963, they moved to a farm near Malo, Washington. After a few years, they sold the farm but continued to live and work in the Republic area for nearly 50 years.
Clarence’s work ethic, skills and versatility enabled him to hold a variety of jobs which included lineman, heavy equipment operator, truck driver, mechanic, farmer, business manager and storekeeper.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and collecting various objects, especially rocks. Clarence is fondly remembered for his “neighbor helping neighbor” attitude, friendliness and sense of humor. His and Jean’s home always had the welcome mat out and the coffee pot was always on.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Jean, and his son, Pat. Clarence is survived by his daughters Doris Newnham of Klamath Falls and Rosemary Holben (Walt) of Sterling, Alaska; sons David of Klamath Falls and Mike (Tiffany) of Republic; nine grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
