Mary Horton, 91, went home to be with Jesus on April 21, 2022. She was born Oct. 7, 1930 in Rice Lake, Wisc. to Ernest and Eunice (Kile) Dewey. She grew up and graduated school in Evansville, Wisc. She married John Horton on Sept. 17, 1949 in Evansville. They moved to Myrtle Point, Ore. in 1956 where Mary worked in the laundry for the school district. They then moved to Klamath Falls in 1974; Mary worked in the cafeteria at Bonanza School until contracting viral encephalitis which required a long recovery. She later drove tanker trucks with her husband for Bear Cat Oil. Mary enjoyed sewing, crocheting, cooking and baking, playing games and spending time with her grandchildren, She participated in the activities at Rogue River Place and especially enjoyed playing cribbage. She also volunteered with SMART reading to children and for Teen Parents babysitting for single parents. Mary was very active at New Horizon Christian Fellowship including attending services and bible studies until her health wouldn't allow her to go. Survivors include her sons Dave Horton of Klamath Falls, Steve Horton of Westport, Ore., daughters, Judy Woods and her husband, Gary of King City, Ore., Christy Flowers and her companion, Rodney Weaver of Klamath Falls, Sandy Hargrove and her husband, Jerry of Klamath Falls; 11 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, John Horton, in 2007; and sister, Ruth VanRooyen. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to New Horizon Christian Fellowship, 1909 Homedale Rd., Klamath Falls, OR 97603 or Basin Youth For Christ, PO Box 557, Malin, OR 97632. A memorial service will be at 3:00pm on Sunday, May 1, 2022 at New Horizon Christian Fellowship, 1909 Homedale Rd., Klamath Falls, OR 97603. Private interment will be at Eternal Hills Memorial Park. The family wishes to express gratitude to Rogue River Place, Dr. Patel and High Desert Hospice for their care.
